Reaching Out is a Tico Times initiative in conjunction with the Public Education Ministry (MEP), the U.S. Embassy and the private sector to put the newspaper in the hands of Costa Rican students learning English.

The Tico Times has always had a close relationship with MEP, and this program was started as part of The Tico Times' 50th anniversary celebration in 2006. The program grew to reach more than 2,000 students at seven schools throughout the country by the end of that year, and it's continuing to grow.

Through this program, businesses sponsor schools to provide copies of The Tico Times to students each week at the schools targeted by the MEP for English-language education. The Tico Times provides the newspapers at cost and distributes them to the schools throughout Costa Rica. The U.S. Embassy provides teachers training on how to use the newspaper to teach English. Both teachers and students have reported that the paper is a great learning tool.

For more information on Reaching Out or if your business would like to sponsor a school, please contact Reaching Out coordinator Ricardo Rojas at 2258-1558 or rrojas@ticotimes.net.
