Guidelines for photos and reports:

We are a community newspaper based in Costa Rica with readers of all ages worldwide of different backgrounds and cultures. Please keep this in mind and respect it when sending us your photos and reports. We do not publish photos or text that we consider inappropriate in any way.

Copyright laws require that you only upload photographs that you have taken.

Also, if third parties are in the photographs (except for those taken in public places) they have to have given their consent and know that their photograph is being published online. Please do not send photos larger than 2 MB.

The sportfishing industry increasingly frowns upon the so-called “hero shot,” which is when you drag big catches aboard the boat for a picture, and then release them. Scientific data show that pulling out big fish, such as sailfish, marlin, big tarpon and big roosterfish, can overstress the fish and damage it internally. The Tico Times encourages readers to continue writing in and posting “release shots” photos instead.

Please read Jerry “Bubba” Hallstrom's report on the new rules and the preferred “release shot.”
