Tomorrow on Exhibit
A new exhibit at Costa Rica's InBio Park offers a futuristic look at how changing climatic conditions might affect the world. A diagram shows the peninsula of Puntarenas becoming an island. And life changes drastically for polar bears and penguins with climate warming.

Nice catch, Cindy! Cindy and Steve Brokens, of Silverdale, Washington, fished Lake Arenal with Capt. Ron's Lake Arenal Fishing Tours, and Cindy landed this nice 7+-pound guapote in early April.
Of fighting the burly guapote, says Cindy, "I had no idea what I had on the line!". Cindy was fishing a topwater lure, casting near the brushy shoreline at daybreak from the bow of Capt. Ron's Boston Whaler.
The fishing is great on Lake Arenal this time of year. To fish Lake Arenal with Capt. Ron Saunders, contact us at 2-694-4678 or email info@arenalfishing.com.

It was a Saturday in the morning. Accompanied by my better friends, Anders and Spanky, the sun as soon as it left and already all we were in the boat with desire to begin a beautiful day of fishing between the best friends.
We arrived at the ideal site, minutes after studying the river I came to indicate to him to Alonso, (the captain of the boat) that threw the anchor then was there where it would begin to fish.
The river was a little dirty because it had rained, this made me understand that the task would be somewhat difficult. I opened my box of decoys and I came to remove to my RAPALA 10 Dt color shrimp, knowing that the satisfactions that that decoy in the zone has given me, it would be impossible to equal. I placed in my cane with my spool Shimano Calcutta You 300, (them comment who this spool has 2 fishing and only had to me disappointed because nothing had stuck him, but soon the things were going to change).
I send against the current with short movements and very subtle collections. Suddenly I feel a blow, very instinctively I give an one step back and I come to enlistment, immediately I feel the great weight of the animal and of great removed from cord one took control to notice.
After several minutes to battle with the great beast, this not yet left to the surface therefore we did not know the magnitude of the animal. Suddenly, with a great one I jump leaves the water, then Alonso Captain and I see myself and shouted. . . "the adrenalin IS the WORLD-WIDE RECORD" arrived at its maximum point and knowing that it could be the best Gaspar of my life I came to bring closer it to the boat, the embicherada one was not easy, a pair of times left the network, but to the second attempt it succumbed between the network and we managed it to raise on board. Very pleased by the fishing the captain and I occur to the hands and to alive voice shout, God thanks for the excellent piece.
Thanks because a long time ago he walked behind this record. This record without a doubt I dedicate it to my two better friends Anders and Spanky who were to my side at this moment of glory and also in special to my friend, mentor and teacher Rodolfo Dorero (Popo). Thanks to its lessons of fishing I have obtained so great merito.

Hi
We fished the lake on 1/19/08 with Capt. Ron and had a great time though the fishing was slow. The lake levels were up and the Volcano views were perfect, going off right in front of us. We all look forward to another try at the lake with Ron.

Lake Arenal has come up in water levels, with heavy rains tapering off last weekend. Mornings are partly sunny, with a couple of glassy-day conditions this week.
Lots of fish hitting in the mornings in the coves, it's been a little harder to land them after strong strikes in the last two weeks, the guapote are making you work for the catch. Lots of newly submerged coves with grass to work now.
We landed this nice 8+ pounder trolling a point.

Fishing on Lake Arenal was excellent in July, even with some cloudy skies and rain showers. Guide Ron Saunders prefers the slightly overcast skies, and regularly caught rainbow bass and pinto bass in the 1-2 kilo range, trolling rattle-traps and using top-water lures. July provided memorable trips for two particular trips, as they each landed particularly large guapote up to 3 kilos.
In early July, Guide Saunders took out two schoolteachers, Jason and Ed from Cheyenne and Seattle, for a memorable half-day of lake fishing in the coves.
The teachers were slammed, catching over 12 fish between them, including a 3-kilo-plus rainbow bass caught trolling in the Rainbow Bay area of Lake Arenal. This big bruiser was approximately 10 pounds and fought his way to the boat for almost 10 minutes. He displayed the classic “hump” on his forehead, and signature rainbow-color striping. (picture BigOneJuly10.jpg)
After removing the hook and taking pictures, this colossal beauty was released to be caught another day. (pic BigReleaseJuly07.jpg).
Later in July, Customer Ronald, from the U.S., worked the “points” of the lakeshore trolling rattle traps with Saunders, and was rewarded with a 2.5-kilo guapote (pic Cust-Guapote.jpg). He vows to return again in 3 months to fish again with Saunders.
Customer Jim, visiting from Connecticut, had an average catch of 8 fish per day during his two half-day tours. He had a blast fighting a 2-kilo macchaca (see attached picture BigMachacaJuly07.jpg) while trolling the “represa”, or dam end of the lake. Macchaca are too bony for good eating, but put up a great fight for the skilled fisherman.
