A 4.7 magnitude tremor shook Costa Rica's central Pacific coast and the Central Valley at 9:49 a.m. Friday. The epicenter was located three kilometers south of Jacó and 48 km deep, according to the National Seismological Network, (RSN) based at the University of Costa Rica.

The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI), based at the National University, reported the shake was a magnitude 5.0 and was located 25 km northeast of Parrita, at 46 km below the earth's surface. Parrita is located on the coast, about 25 km southeast of Jacó.

Online social networks such as Twitter were abuzz with posts from residents in the Central Pacific and the Southern Zone, who reported “strong” jolts and said some household items had fallen. Residents in Cartago and San José also said they felt vibrations.

As of 11:30 a.m. on Friday, the National Emergency Commission (CNE) had not received any reports of serious damages or injuries.
