A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck at 11:22 a.m. Friday off of Costa Rica's Caribbean shore.
The quake occurred on the Miento plate in the Caribbean Sea with an epicenter 37 kilometers northeast of the Boca de Parismina, a small bay on Costa Rica's Caribbean coastline and at a depth of 46 km.
Tremors were felt all along the Caribbean coast and in parts of the Central Valley. The Costa Rica Vulcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI), based at the National University, did not report any aftershocks.
As of 12:47 p.m. Friday, the National Emergency Commission had not received any reports of injuries, damage or landslides. Commission officials had not heard of any effects the shakes may have had on the French Jacques Vabre 2009 sailboats that are en route to Costa Rica's Caribbean port of Limón.
The race's lead boats are just east of the West Indian islands in the Caribbean Sea, more than 2,000 km away from the earthquake's epicenter.
