Marbella Surf Inn welcomes surfers and their families to a remote stretch of the Pacific coast.

On a remote stretch of Pacific coast in the northwestern province of Guanacaste, about halfway between Junquillal and Ostional, sits Marbella, a surfer’s paradise of sandy beaches with perfect waves, surrounded by virtually untouched nature.

The 1.5-kilometer walk from the town of Marbella to the beach is a promenade through rural Costa Rica, with howler monkeys hanging from the trees and friendly neighbors smiling at passers-by along the road. This same road is home to one of Marbella’s few hotels: Marbella Surf Inn, a beautiful six-room hotel with all the comforts, in a laid-back beach setting.

The hotel’s owner, Joe Martella, fell in love with the town of Marbella back in 2002. The avid surfer came to Costa Rica from Huntington Beach, California, with a friend, looking for the best waves they could find. The two traveled up and down the Pacific coast from Tamarindo to Dominical, and then visited the Caribbean side as well. At the end of their road trip, both men agreed that Marbella had been their favorite spot. They found the waves they were looking for and also loved the rural lifestyle that set the place apart from busier beach towns.

Martella knew he had found the place where he would start a new life, he said. Shortly after, he moved to Costa Rica. He started out living in the Central Pacific surfer’s mecca of Playa Hermosa, but Marbella was always on his mind. He bought property there and started working in real estate until he could finally afford to make the move. In 2010, he built Marbella’s first hotel, he said.

“I’m 40, and I want to live in a comfortable place with first-class amenities, but I also love the rural life and being able to surf. This is the lifestyle I want to portray in my hotel,” Martella said.

And he has succeeded. Marbella Surf Inn’s six guest rooms have all the comforts – air conditioning, satellite TV, comfy beds, refrigerator, coffee machine, microwave oven, hot water and wireless Internet – all just a kilometer from the beach and its awesome surf.

“It’s a place where surfers like me can be happy because not only do they have the best waves, but their families have all the comfort they need,” Martella said. “Their children have a great pool to play in, there’s good food and everything that makes our lives easier.”

The hotel’s beautifully landscaped setting includes a rancho-style lounge and restaurant, a bar and a large pool. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes for all tastes, from perfectly cooked burgers to pasta with lobster and tomato sauce, and every dish is served with a smile.

“Here you get the real feel of the pura vida lifestyle, and our guests get to enjoy that during their stay,” Martella said.

Martella and his staff are happy to arrange surf classes for guests, as well as a variety of other tours and activities, including yoga lessons, horseback riding tours and visits to other area beaches such as Ostional, world-famous as a sea turtle nesting site. Martella said that in the future he would like to offer Spanish classes combined with yoga and surf lessons.

The tranquillity of Marbella is an attraction in itself, but for guests looking to enjoy some nightlife, Martella said he can arrange transportation and a night’s stay in the tourist town of Tamarindo to the north, where they can do a night’s partying and then return to the peace and quiet of Marbella.

Going There

From San José, take the Caldera Highway (Route 23) west to Caldera and then the Inter-American Highway north toward Liberia. Turn left at the sign for the Tempisque/La Amistad Bridge and follow signs to Santa Cruz. Once in Santa Cruz, follow signs to Tamarindo until you arrive at an intersection indicating Tamarindo to the right and Ostional to the left. Turn left toward Ostional. Once in Marbella, turn right on the road toward the beach.

Room rates start at $70 during low season and go up to $125 during high season. For more information and reservations, call 2682-8206 or 8348-7855, email info@marbellasurfinn.com or see Marbella Surf Inn’s Facebook page (website under construction at www.marbellasurfinn.com).

I am John Nelson, a senior staff with the World Bank fact finding & special duties Office. I am writing you this letter based on the fact that cool penny is better than millions of Dollars means it's better for one to live and die poor honest man than a rich dishonest one. I and the Chief security officer (CSO) of this organization have arranged with an officer in the Computer section the person of Engineer Peter Cliff to bring out part of your total pending payment with reference number (LM-05-371) amounting to US$12 million United State Dollar. Why we did this is because according to information gathered from the bank's security computer, you have been waiting for a long time to receive this payment without success. As I found out that you have almost met all the statutory.

Requirements in respect of your pending payment. The problems you are having is that of interest groups. A lot of people are interested in your payment and those people are merely doing paper works with you and that explains why you receive different kinds of untrue fax and phone messages from different people everyday. Also we found out that some of the officials of the prostates have been extorting a lot of money from you with the pretext of helping you receive your money. I can assure you this will keep happening if you. If you can also come here in West Africa Accra Ghana it will be better so that we can sit and discuss how to therefore this money. To your account.

The said payment is been arranged in a security-proof box weighing 75kg. In order to get this box shipped to you I and the (CSO) Yesterday went to this four courier companies Dhl,, Ems, FedEx and Ups to make arrangements On how to get the box shipped to you by courier, but to no avail the above courier companies all made us to understand that they will have to open the box for inspection by the customs before shipment. This is something We want to avoid because this box is been padded with synthetic nylon and to open it you will have to cut the pad before you will meet the button that you will press to open the dial code-lock. There is no way you can open the box and be able to close it again because it was padded with machine. We told the courier services that the box Contained film materials and when open will spoil the materials. We did not declare money because courier does not carry money.

Today a friend of mine who is a diplomat disclosed to me that there is a security courier Service Company that is specialized in sending diplomatic materials and information from one country to another, which also has diplomatic immunity and consignment such as this, cannot be checked by any customs anywhere in the world. I have therefore met the official of the security courier service and concluded shipping arrangement with them, which they will commence as soon as I have your go ahead order. The diplomat who will be bring in this consignment to you is An expert and has been in this line of work for many years now so we have noting to worry about. After all arrangements we have concluded that you must donate Five Hundred Thousand United States dollars (US$500, 000.00) to any charity organization I designate as soon as you receive your money. To this effect, you will send to us a promissory note for the donation along with your address where you will like the box to be
delivered to by the courier. Please mails bellow information:

1) Your full name, address...
2) Phone, fax...
3) Company name, position..
4) Profession, age and marital status...
May God be with you,
Yours Faithfully
