Some 350 shows and 2,000 artists will make up the program of the 2011 National Arts Festival, set to take place March 18 to 27 in the Caribbean-slope towns of Turrialba and Siquirres.
Novelties this year will include a national film festival and 14 art exhibits – more than in any of the festival’s previous eight incarnations, the daily La Nación reported. Additionally, a traveling festival will bring puppet, dance, music, poetry, theater and circus shows to banana-growing communities in surrounding areas.
The festival’s complete program is expected to be released shortly and should be available at www.festivaldelasartes.go.cr.
The National Arts Festival takes place every two years in a different region of the country. Turrialba and Siquirres were selected to host this year’s festival because of the progress both communities have made in their cultural offerings in recent years, and because they had been excluded in past editions of the festival, according to Anselmo Navarro, director of the festival.
