Obama Right on Taxes

Posted: Thursday, February 02, 2012 - By Lew Hayes

Dear Tico Times:

Regarding your Jan. 27 editorial, I agree with Barack Obama’s programs on taxes and reducing unemployment. But I wonder why he waited until an election year to air his plans.

If he is sincere, why not exhibit an example for the rest of us by saving the taxpayers untold millions of dollars by cutting out those lavish vacation trips for himself, the first family and his daughter’s friends – all paid for by the taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars.

If he was sincere, he would support reducing the scope and size of government by following the Constitution of the USA and cutting out unnecessary cabinet departments and turning many of those responsibilities back to the individual States. The USA is 16 trillion dollars in debt with outstanding future obligations in the 60-80 trillion range. This massive debt and the Fed's quantitative easings are wiping out the value of the US dollar and if the current administration keeps doing what it has been doing, the USA faces a government collapse and insolvency within 5 to 10 years. Oh, yes, the DOD should be cut back too and stop all of these costly and unnecessary foreign adventures while we are slowly going bankrupt.
Or, better yet, how about trimming a few billions from the obscene $1 trillion per annum that we lavish on "Defense" and "Defense related expenditures", since we spend more money on "Defense" than the next 20 countries combined! Does anyone honestly think that Iran would lob 1 or 2 nukes at Israel when the Israelis alone have enough nuclear weapons to wipe out Iran, and the US has about 5,000 bombs in reserve?
cheley, your statement that Romney paid 13% in taxes while the average US citizen pays 32% misses the mark completely. You are either letting left wing media cloud your judgment or you have no inkling how the tax system works. Romney paid full boat 32%+ in taxes on his earnings, which he then invested. His income from those investments is what he paid an additional $13% on. If you don't know what you are talking about, maybe you should investigate and learn a little first.
Lew, Obama has taken nowhere near the number of vacations GW did to the ranch and Kennebunkport on the tax payers' dime - NOWHERE near.
Romney paid 13% taxes Average US Citzen 32% Taxes. I would like to pay what Romney Pays.
