Costa Rica inflation registers 0.63 percent in April

Posted: Thursday, May 03, 2012 - By AFP
Current inflation figures are within Central Bank expectations.

Costa Rica closed April with an inflation rate of 0.63 percent, ending the first quarter of the year at 1.50 percent, said the National Statistics and Census Institute in a statement Thursday.

Transportation, eating out and alcoholic beverages were the services that most influenced variation in the price index, the report stated.

In March inflation reached 0.40 percent. Annual inflation, which runs from May 2011 to April 2012, reached 4.71 percent, a higher index than the 4.68 percent registered the previous year.

Costa Rica finished 2011 with 4.74 percent inflation, a figure within the expectations of the Central Bank, which had set a target between 4 and 6 percent. A level similar to that is expected for this year.
