Costa Rican police confiscate almost 1,000 kilos of cocaine in six days

Posted: Tuesday, May 24, 2011 - By Adam Williams
The drug busts, totaling 938 kilos, are linked to the international drug trade.

Authorities arrested a man Monday night after discovering he had 560 kilos of cocaine stored in a farming truck in the town of Cuajiniquil in La Cruz, located in the northwest Guanacaste province. The arrest was the second massive confiscation of cocaine in the last six days.

On May 18, a man was detained in the town of Miramar, in the Pacific province of Puntareanas, after police discovered 378 kilos of cocaine in his truck.

According to the National Police, on Monday at 10 p.m., a man with the last name of Alvarado was pulled over in Cuajiniquil driving a truck. Upon a search of the vehicle, police found 560 kilos of cocaine, nearly 2 million colones, $40 and two cell phones. Alvarado is alleged to be involved in drug-trafficking and will be placed in six months of preventive prison while he awaits trial.

According to Costa Rica’s Public Security Ministry, last year police seized 9,900 kilograms of cocaine, the second highest quantity in history, exceeded only by 2008.

I suspect the shooting started some time ago based on the murders throughout CR that are done by the chemically dependent willing to obtain money for drugs no matter what they have to do.
What all this clearly indicates is that Costa Rica has become a major drug center with major crime. For every kilo that is picked up, 9 make the trip. When will the shooting start?
Some years ago an ethnic Chinese told me that the police solved the drug problem in his valley back in China by intercepting a drug shipment, lacing it with a very slow acting and inevitably fatal substance and then allowed the shipment to proceed on it's way.

Per his allegation, the problem was solved instead of merely being addressed.
