Costa Rica to host Ronald McDonald Golf Tournament

Posted: Friday, March 04, 2011 - By Tico Times

Some of the best national and international golfers will hit the greens March 12 for a good cause – a benefit for the Ronald McDonald Home and the children they support. The 10th annual Ronald McDonald Youth Foundation Golf tournament will be held at Golf La Iguana at Hotel Marriott’s Los Sueños, in Herradura, Puntarenas.

The tournament kicks off at 8 a.m. and players will be grouped in teams of four and play a scramble.

Golfers Victor Echevarría, Iván Pérez and brothers Miguel Santin and Jorge Santin, winners of the Puerto Rico Tournament, will be playing the event. In exchange, last year’s Costa Rica tournament winners –Robert Twine, Robert Twine, Jr. and Royce Mitchell – get an all-expense paid trip to Puerto Rico to play the foundation’s tournament there, also in March.

In addition to helping out a good cause, players have a chance to win $100,000, a BMW F650 (valued at $17,250) and a chance to win a trip to the tournament in Puerto Rico next year.

To enter, a $200 fee is required, which can be paid at La Iguana Golf Course. For more information, call the course at 2630-9012 or the foundation at 2523-0214. Proceeds will help build the first Ronald McDonald Home in Costa Rica.

A fishing competition will also be held the next day. The fee for that event is $100, and arrangements can also be made through the hotel.
