The Costa Rican-American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) held an annual assembly Monday and elected a new board of directors for 2013-2014. Café Britt founder Steve Aronson was elected president.

“I want to direct an AMCHAM that is a leader and that provides support to education, connectivity and competitiveness,” Aronson said.

Founded 40 years ago, AMCHAM seeks to foster a stronger commercial bond between the U.S. and Costa Rica. The organization now consists of 400 companies with both U.S. and Costa Rican interests.

The chamber’s outgoing president, José Antonio Muñoz, a founding partner at the Arias & Muñoz law firm, presented the 2012 activities report at the meeting.

The report highlighted the chamber’s role in combating illicit trade, influencing gender diversity in business and strengthening the relationship between the public and private sectors.
