All materials contained in pages with the route name www.ticotimes.net are protected by copyright. Please find instructions in this section on how to request permission to reuse content from The Tico Times. Personal information: The information voluntarily supplied by readers when subscribing, ordering or registering will be used only for those express purposes and for future customer service correspondence. Link to Us

The Tico Times invites you to place a link to www.ticotimes.net on your blog, personal or organizational website. Unless otherwise stated, words or graphics reused from or linked to our website are for your non-commercial use only. (See our Reprint Policy on this page.)

Link Exchanges

The Tico Times declines offers to exchange links. This is a practice whereby individuals or organizations post each other’s URL link on their website, usually free of charge, in exchange for having theirs posted on the other’s site. It is not our wish to belittle the value of Web community through link exchanges. However, the newspaper counts on paid advertising among its revenue sources and therefore cannot provide free space on our site for your link. Please see our Advertising section or contact display@ticotimes.net for details on how to advertise with us.

Reprint Policy

Thank you for your interest in republishing a product of The Tico Times or its affiliates. Except where noted, all material on The Tico Times and The Nica Times sites are copyrighted by The Tico Times. Anyone interested in republishing content from our site can contact us at info@ticotimes.net or +506 2258-1558 for a quote to reprint/re-post the content.

The Tico Times pays writers, photographers and other production staff. If you use our content on your site, unless otherwise authorized, we request that you reimburse us and we insist that reprints prominently attribute the source and author, and feature a link back to The Tico Times (http://www.ticotimes.net) or The Nica Times (http://www.nicatimes.net).

Additionally, The Tico Times has a distribution agreement with McClatchy-Tribune Information Services, whereby that company selects articles from our site for redistribution. For reprints via this service, e-mail tmsreprints@permissionsgroup.com, call (+1) 800-374-7985 or 847-635-6550, send a fax to 847-635-6968, or write to The Permissions Group Inc., 1247 Milwaukee Ave., Suite 303, Glenview, IL 60025, USA.

Article Free/Paid-Only

A selection of The Tico Times articles are available for free on the website, some of them for a limited time only. For the remainder of articles, the website displays the headline, sometimes a photograph and introductory text, only, and requires purchasing or subscribing for complete viewing. We reserve the right to convert free content into purchase-only content, and vice versa, at any time. After purchasing, the content is for personal use. Please contact us for permission to reprint/re-post/redistribute the content (see Reprint Policy).

NEW! Whereas in the past articles sold via www.ticotimes.net were text-only PDF versions of stories that appeared in the weekly print edition, article purchases now include photographs and other graphics, and they are laid out on a Web page with a link.

Teachers and Students

The Tico Times is a valuable educational material, whether for English-language learning or any topic related to issues inside our award-winning newspaper. Teachers and students may make up to 50 printed copies of our articles for classroom use; anything further we request that you contact us for permission. The Tico Times, URL and author/photographer’s name must be legible and may not be covered or replaced with any other name, logo or title indicating authorship by another.

Discounts on subscriptions are available for teachers and students. We encourage you to discuss with your school or educational institution the possibility of subscribing to our newspaper. The Tico Times began in 1956 as an educational project and, after transitioning into a professional news organization, has remained committed to its original mission of education. Please contact our Circulation Department for details on subscriptions at subscriptions@ticotimes.net or +(506) 2258-1558.

Photography/Image Policy

Photographs, charts and other graphics that appear on this website are property of The Tico Times, unless otherwise indicated, and require permission for reuse. They should be accompanied by a photo credit including the photographer’s and newspaper’s name. The Tico Times photographs purchased on www.ticotimes.net are for personal use only and not for commercial purposes. Credit must be given to the photographer and to The Tico Times when the photographs are used. For example, Ronald Reyes/The Tico Times. Images accompanied by the words “courtesy of,” AFP, AP or EFE, for example, require permission from those parties for reuse.

A selection of our favorite images are available for purchase in the Best of The Tico Times section. To purchase other photographs that appeared in any of our publications, please contact info@ticotimes.net or +(506) 2258-1558 and provide us with the date of publication and description of the photo.

Online Reader Photo Gallery

We have revamped our online Reader Photo Gallery and encourage you to create one by uploading photos no larger than 2 MB in jpeg format. We post a maximum of six photos from each reader at a time. Each uploaded photo will be reviewed by The Tico Times before being published. Feel free to share your photographs using the following guidelines: We are a community newspaper based in Costa Rica and Nicaragua with readers of all ages worldwide of different backgrounds and cultures. Please keep this in mind and respect it when publishing your photos. We do not publish photos we consider inappropriate in any way. Copyright laws require that you only upload photographs that you have taken. Also, if third parties are in the photographs (except for those taken in public places) they have to have given their consent and know that their photograph is being published online. In order to publish your photo, we need your name, e-mail, a photo caption and the date and location where the photo was taken. If you have photos of your fishing trip, we encourage you to post them along with a brief report on our online Fishing Forum. Please e-mail info@ticotimes.net if you have any questions about our photo galleries.

Your Shot in Print

You can share your favorite photos from Costa Rica and around Central America in our weekly print edition as part of our reader-created Your Shot series. Please send these as a high-resolution (no smaller than 100 kb) e-mail attachment to Editor Dave Boddiger at mlevin@ticotimes.net. Include your name, telephone number, a photo caption and the date and location where the photo was taken. These photographs are published with the understanding that they were provided courtesy of a reader. Your Shot submissions will not be remunerated.

Comments and Reader Forums

The Tico Times wishes to stimulate open, respectful discussion about the topics it covers, which is why we have expanded our article comments section and enhanced our Fishing Forum to include comments as well. Readers must fill out a free registration form or log in to comment or to post a Fishing Forum entry. To protect the privacy of readers, your e-mail address will not appear. Please refrain from profanity or abusive language and only submit appropriate photos to the forum. We reserve the right to screen comments and forums, and to publish their content elsewhere on the site and in the print edition. Please fill out the free registration form to contribute to the discussion.

Opinion Pages

The Tico Times hopes to stimulate informed discussion with its news articles, editorials and other content. We invite readers to send letters and perspective articles. Letters of 500 words or fewer will be published unless they contain language or content that the editors feel is inappropriate. Perspectives should be 900 words or fewer and be accompanied by a short bio and contact information. Submissions should be original. Send your contributions to letters@ticotimes.net, fax: 2233-6378 or mail to          THE TICO TIMES Apdo. 4632-1000, San José, Costa Rica. The opinions expressed by columnists, and perspective or letter writers do not reflect the opinions of The Tico Times.

Advertising and Classifieds

We encourage organizations, companies and individuals to place an ad in our print and online editions as an excellent way to get noticed and get results with our diverse, international readership. Please notify us if you find an ad offensive or inappropriate in any way.
