Our southern regions encompassing primarily Granada and San Juan del Sur get the Lions share plus some compared to the most diverse and largest region of all Nicaragua, northern Nicaragua. see: http://www.nicaliving.com/node/17414 Northern Nicaragua, the land of Beaches, Volcano's, Mountains, Lakes, coffee and cigar plantations, Home of Flora de Cana and more...
If you can believe what ProNicaragua, the official tourist propaganda machine of Nicaragua had to say about Nicaragua's beaches? "THE BEACHES of NICARAGUA" under that heading they listed only 3! San Juan del Sur, Ometepe and the Corn Islands!!!! Two islands and the "pet" commercial spot, SJS. Not one mention of one of the best beaches in the world, and one, unlike San Juan del Sur, has accommodations ON THE BEACH and surfers can walk feet or meters before they hit the surf, not a taxi cab or rental car.
All of northern Nicaragua is like that, barely mentioned at all, Leon, the 2nd largest city in the Country plays 2nd fiddle to all promotional materials. Las Penitas is ONLY a 20 minute drive from Leon on a brand new US sponsored highway, an incredible beach community that because of the poor publicity has few tourists that even know it exists. But once they do, they are back and can't believe they didn't know it existed from almost any publication, including travel guides that also have been no shows due to mis-information or no information at all. Please help me get the word out, Nicaragua is much bigger than the south west corner of the largest country in Central America.
