Welcome ashore

As the annual arribada of sea turtles continues in Ostional, Guanacaste, we’re sharing one of our favorite images by Lindsay Fendt of a turtle coming ashore to nest.

According to videos and news posted on Facebook by the Association of Local Ostional Guides, so many turtles came ashore at Ostional this year that they ran out of room on the beach; some turtles have continued on to the nearby roadway and even homes.

Local efforts to protect turtles have intensified since an infamous incident in 2015 when tourists eager to watch the turtles’ arrival interfered with their nesting.
