Tamarindo Talk

Of course the main action last week was the influx of thousands of people to run the Tamarindo Marathon. However a few other things went on.

Omar Ortiz, the former chef from Pangas Restaurant, opened elchefO Latin Fusion cuisine inside Laguna del Cocodrilo Hotel, where there used to be a restaurant of the same name. Omar will be cooking up typical foods, salads, and some gourmet selections like baked whole snapper, rigatoni bolognese, gluten-free beer battered fish and T-bone steak. In addition, when not at the new restaurant, he will be giving private cooking classes. Easiest way to get in touch with Omar Ortiz is to Facebook him.

Also in food news, Jay Benson and Allyson Marcus-Benson bought FTs on the main road, and are doing some renovations. Arguably the best burritos in town (now that Gil’s is long gone), the place also has the same popular typical food we’ve come to know and love.

And finally, there’s a wonderful new place in Playa Grande called Seven, which has an open air restaurant featuring ribs and pizza, as well as a newly constructed cave that serves as a nightclub style bar. You can even get there by boat from Tamarindo and return as late as 2 a.m. For the water taxi, and other information call 8830-0687.
