Coco Capsule

July 18, 2012

Midsummer fundraising events are as rare as snow on the beach. Thus, The Blue Flag Dance planned for Saturday, Aug. 4, from 7-10 p.m., should be especially festive. Held at the luxurious Villa del Sueño in Hermosa, the event will feature popular dance band Pirates del Lago.

The event is sponsored by the Playa Hermosa Association (www.playahermosabeach.org), and proceeds will go to beach cleanups, according to Board President John O’Connell. Anyone familiar with Playas del Coco will note the changes: The beach now features many more trash containers and far less litter.

Tickets cost $10 and include one drink. They can be procured from Chip Joslin by calling 8702-8367 or Faith Mullens at 2672-4008.

Though it promotes itself as a cigar store, Artesanos (located above Susy’s Gifts and next to Five Star Salon in downtown Coco) is much more. The shop offers fine wines and liquor from throughout the region, as well as quality organic Costa Rican coffee and chocolates. The cigars originate as far away as the Dominican Republic, and there’s a fine selection of Nicaraguan hand-rolled and Cuban cigars.
