For those who need a little help planning special meals for the holidays, Brown Box Pastry, Pura Vida Pantry, Lemon Zest and Panchi’s Pan are just a few places in Jacó to get specialty items for holiday dinners. Both Jimmy T’s and Auto Mercado in Herradura are offering special baking and platter services as well.
For gift ideas, everyone can use a 2012 calendar; McKee Project calendars are available at the Vet Clinic, Farmacia Sophia and the library. All proceeds go to the animals of Garabito. Lots of shops around town are also featuring sales and promotions for the holidays, but if you can’t find what you need here, Faith Mulvihill of Oceans by Daystar has put together a holiday shopping shuttle to Multiplaza Escazú, with a stop at PriceSmart. The next shuttle is Dec. 21 with a departure time of 8:30 a.m. from Oceans Center Jacó, across from KFC and Pizza Hut, arriving at Multiplaza at 10 a.m. and departing at 3 p.m. The round-trip cost is $35 per person; for reservations, call 2630-9800.
The third annual Los Sueños Resort Marlin Invitational brought an exciting finish to the 2011 fishing year in the Central Pacific. Dragon Fly came in first, followed by Pescadora and Family and Friends. All told, 55 participating anglers released 39 marlin and 151 sailfish in the tournament.
The Los Sueños Signature Billfish Series 2012 has scheduled Tournament Leg 1 for Jan. 25-28 and Tournament Leg 2 for March 21-24. For more information, contact Ashley Bretecher at email@example.com or 2630-4009, or visit www.lstournaments.com.
There will be no Central Pacific Women’s Group meeting this month. The next meeting will be Jan. 18 at Hotel Cocal. The program, presented by Sergio Urzola, will focus on what to do in a medical emergency in the greater Jacó area.
Kenny Lamkin from Hawaii has opened Kenny’s Pub & Grill on the first floor of Il Galeone Mall in the center of Jacó. He offers home-cooked North American-style food, including tasty grits, daily from 6:30 a.m.-10 p.m. La Cantina is another new bar, next to Banco de Costa Rica in Plaza Jacó. It’s open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-midnight Friday-Sunday, for lunch, coffee and drinks. For information, call 5003-5227 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
