Welcome back to Flamingo resident Barbara Spell, who has spent the past eight months in the United States with friends, family and grandkids. Flamingo resident Vickie Goodloe and her two daughters, Olivia and Ashley, returned from a great holiday trip to Guatemala just before school started. And Surfside resident Maylynn Wilson recently celebrated her 40th birthday at La Perla’s with lots of friends and family.

The Happy Snapper in Brasilito presents Downchild Blues Band and The Leatherbacks Friday nights through Feb. 18. Dinner starts at 7 p.m., and the music starts at 9. The cover charge is ₡4,000 ($8) per person. For information, call 2654-4413.

Playa Prieta is the newest ocean-view hot spot for locals and visitors to be introduced to the Hotel Palacio del Sol’s new restaurant, Lights from Heaven, and Bar Ron Ron. The restaurant and bar open at 4:30 p.m. every day except Wednesdays, with happy hour from 4:30 to 6 p.m. If you need a ride, call the office at 2654-6079 or 2654-6080 after 1 p.m. to request pickup.
