Lots of low-season promotions make this a great time to visit the Central Pacific. Here are just a few to check out: Canciones del Mar (2643-3273) has two-for-one happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m.; Jaco Taco (2643-1313) is offering $1 breakfast, lunch and dinner specials throughout the week; Hotel Poseidon (2643-1642) on Calle Bohío has dinner specials for two people for $25, including one appetizer and two entrées; Poseidon, Claritas and Los Amigos are just a few of the establishments offering promotions on cervezas for NFL season; and great discounts and sales are going on in shops like Chuck’s Wow Surf, Billy’s B&B and Souvenir Centro, to name just a few.

Another reason to stop by Jacó this weekend is the Morgan’s Cove Invitational Surf Contest, with more than $3,000 in prize money. This is the second date of the Triple Corona being held in conjunction with the Surf Federation of Costa Rica. Fresh bagels are available in Jacó. A bag of five costs ₡2,000 ($4) in your choice of plain, poppy, sesame, onion, garlic, everything, Italian, whole wheat or cinnamon raisin (one flavor per bag). Orders must be sent to by Monday at 8 a.m. for free delivery Tuesday afternoon. Please include delivery address and phone number. Orders may be picked up between 4 and 7 p.m. at Casa Kayak in Ricos y Famosos on Calle Europa, Casa 48.

Dick Tanner’s fishing tackle store is open for all you anglers in Ocean Plaza, 100 meters from the entrance of Los Sueños in Herradura. Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For information, call Capt. Dean Jacobs, who is helping the store out during low season, at 2637-6111.
