Flamingo/Potrero News

January 29, 2010

La PazCommunitySchool hosted its third annual fundraising event at the Flamingo Marina Resort Jan. 23, with food, live music, a silent auction, door prizes, raffles and fun, as attendees came in support of the school. All proceeds go toward the school’s scholarship fund and resources.

A lovely memorial service was held at the home of Isabel Dutry of Flamingo for Marcia Steiner, who passed away unexpectedly in San José. A special floral arrangement that spelled out her name was placed in open view of all the visitors who came to celebrate her life and mourn her passing. She was a treasured friend to those who knew her, and she will be truly missed. Our condolences go to her husband, Ron, and family.

Cecile, owner of La Panadera del Pueblo, is now taking orders for our resident butcher, Tony Kast: free-range organic chicken, beef, lamb, pork, sausages, bacon and more. Tony used to have an office at the Hitching Post but needed to close due to unexpected circumstances. He is now working with Cecile to sell his meats. Orders may be placed through Cecile by Wednesday of each week and picked up Saturday after 2 p.m. at her bakery at the Hitching Post in Brasilito. For more information, contact Cecile at 2654-5449 or cecilelaboulangere@hotmail.com.

The Flamingo Association is holding its general assembly meeting at the Flamingo Beach Resort Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. The agenda will include the election of new board members, the formation of help committees, a progress report from 2009 and Blue Flag status. For more information, contact Jane Frank at bananalunaff@yahoo.com.

My sincerest thanks to Marie Yates for covering for me while I was in the United States due to a death in the family. I am truly grateful to her for always being so ready and cheerful to help out when needed.
