Woman Gives Birth To Conjoined Twins
A woman gave birth to conjoined twin girls on Tuesday at the National Children’s Hospital without any major complications, La Nación reported.Doctors performed a Caesarean section on the mother – identified as María Arias, 41, of León XIII, west of San José – to deliver the babies, who are joined at the thorax and abdomen.Although the infants are in stable condition, they share a liver and their hearts are very close together, according to Óscar González, chief gynecologist at Hospital México, where Arias was first treated. He told the daily that the close proximity of the hearts will need to be evaluated before doctors can decide whether to separate the children.The baby girls join nine siblings (TT, Aug. 26).
